Larry's Loyal Order Of Larrys In The Arts

The goal of LOLITA is to recognize and catalog those in the media (both real and fictional) who enrich, and more often than not, erode the public perception of the name Larry.

Larry doesn't get the girl. Larry doesn't fight evil doers. Larry doesn't lead soldiers into battle. Larry is the best friend, the annoying neighbor, the creepy uncle, the choleric boss. Larry is irresponsible, immature, irritable, and ill-fated. Larry began as a nickname for more noble yet weak-chinned names like Laurence and Lorenzo, all of which have their root in the Latin for laurel. Laurel was presented as a wreath to those victorious (now ironic to Larry the loser) in the Pythian games. It is also associated with poetry and prophecy, perhaps further propagating the perception of Larry the dreamer and schemer. We will be looking at Larry's throughout history. Some were born Larrys. Some were merely pretenders. Some hid their inner Larrys from the eyes of the world. We will see Larrys poured from the mold and those that broke it. Perhaps you have a little Larry in you; or if you're Cameron Diaz, perhaps you'd like some?
